That’s right, you read that correctly, healthy and gourmet, restaurant quality food that you can take with you adventuring. Created by a chef who wanted good for you, good tasting food while enjoying the outdoors. There is nothing better than being able to look forward to food after a day out in the mountains and I can truthfully say that every time I knew we had a Good To-Go meal waiting to be served up that evening I was stoked.
One of the best things about Good To-Go meals is the simple ingredient list, only real food, with no chemical preservatives and a depth of flavour that I didn’t know was possible with dehydrated meals. They are gluten free, vegetarian and pescatarian friendly.
Here are the flavours we have tried and what we thought of each one:
Classic Marinara with Penne:
I think everyone can agree that Pasta is a mainstay out in the backcountry. it’s filling, warm and so satisfying. The Good To-Go Marinara with Penne is made with brown rice noodles, but you would never know from the “wheat like” texture of the noodles. It’s smothered in a simple tomato marinara sauce that is given a cheesy richness from nutritional yeast. Haven’t heard of nutritional yeast before? Don’t worry, you won’t be able to tell there isn’t actual cheese in this dish.

When we tried the Thai Curry we actually said “I would be happy if I paid for this meal in a restaurant”. Yes, that is how good it tasted and it’s actually one of the best tasting Thai curries we have tasted outside of visiting Thailand. Big statement I know, but they really nailed the spices with this one and we could taste every layer of flavour.

Smoked Three Bean Chili:
It’s smoky, tastes like it’s been simmering for hours and is loaded with simple healthy ingredients. Chili is just one of those dishes that belongs in the backcountry, especially when it tastes like it was made over an open campfire. The Smoked Three Bean Chili contains humble ingredients but delivers hearty and complex flavours.

Herbed Mushroom Risotto:
Generally when I think of risotto I think of the time it takes at the stove to get the perfect consistency and flavour. How is it possible that they were able to get both of these right in a dehydrated version of the meal? I don’t have the answer to that, but what I can tell you is that the Herbed Mushroom Risotto is creamy, decadent and definitely gourmet.

Real ingredients – Each meal is made with actual food and spices. You will notice on their nutrition label they even point out “notice how many (ingredients) you can pronounce.” Real food means real taste.
Low sodium and no preservatives – The first thing you may notice is that you can taste the actual ingredients, rather than salt. It’s nice to actually taste a dehydrated meal where I can make the decision whether I would like to add salt to the dish rather than have an overly salted meal forced on me.
Taste delicious – You will be surprised at how good these meals actually taste. I didn’t think there could be such a difference between standard dehydrated meals and these, but I was absolutely blown away. Generally dehydrated meals are reserved for back-country use only, as they are not deemed tasty enough for everyday life, but I would gladly eat any of these for dinner at home.
20 minute wait – Each meal has a 20 minute wait, which is slightly longer than the standard wait of 10-15 minutes. However this isn’t really much of an issue for me as I think these meals are more than worth the extra wait!
